IGN's Top 25 Iphone Games

I for one am very cautious and hesitant when it comes to paying for stuff on the Iphone. Sure each and every application for the iphone is cheap, but those expenses will inevitably add up, and Iphone games certainly don't fall short of that fact.

Here is a general buyers guide for Iphone apps that may be worth getting according to IGN.

Halo Reach: THE REVIEWS ARE IN!

For those interested, here is the metacritic average for Halo Reach. For those that don't know, metacritic is a website that takes reviewer scores and averages them all on a "metascore". And of course, links are provided to each website, I recommend looking at it just to get a general outlook whether or not a game is worth buying.

An Hour of Halo Reach

For those (many) people who can't wait to get their hands on Halo Reach, Gamespot has recently uploaded some gameplay from the first 2 levels and a little bit of multiplayer 4 on 4 action. Since this features the first two levels there are obviously going to be spoilers. This video goes on for an hour. As it appears, this game lives up to all of the hype and it lets bungie end its work on Halo in a good note. The question is, which developer will take charge of the next Halo game.

Brink Endless Horizon Trailer

Brink is a team based shooter that seeks to bridge single player and multiplayer seamlessly with a first person shooter world. This FPS seems very inspired of Team Fortress 2 with it's cartoony look, but at the same time Brink is like Team Fortress 2 turned up to eleven. This game has been in development for a long time and continulously delayed, but that's a good sign that the developers are absolutely serious about making this game kick ass. Check out the latest trailer/vidoc.

GT Video Duke Nukem Forever: Story and Mechanics Interview

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/pax-10-duke-nukem/704165

The guys at Gearbox have a lot to live up to (and unessesarily so). Honestly I bet more than half of the people who call themselves "Duke Nukem fans" haven't even played Duke Nukem 3D. But oh well, people will have ridiculous expectations. I am not saying that the game will turn out bad, but lets be honest. This game will not satisfy expectations, not at all. Gearbox only has so much time until this game's release date This game won't be the second coming of Jesus Christ, but it will most likely be a great game.

Watch the interview, it's quite interesting.

Bad Company 2 Vietnam unveiling next week

Bad Company 2 is now currently my favorite multiplayer game (a position which is most likely to usurped by Halo Reach in less than 6 days). The game had great multiplayer with giant maps, destructible buildings, plenty of unlockable weapons, and a variety of vehicles and stratagies. There were so many different things you could do within this FPS, so look forward to more information about the new expansion next week. It has been comfirmed that this game will be an expansion to Bad Company 2 that includes four new maps, Vietnam era weapons, new vehicles, unlockables, and achievements. Personally four new maps for an expansion seems to be on the low side, but I'll make the final call once I see everything for my self.

The Tokyo gameshow starts from September 16 and ends at the 19th of September. Hopefully I won't be too busy playing Halo Reach.

Optimistic about motion control?

Right now both Microsoft and Sony have a huge problem in their hands. They have motion control add-ons to their console, and unlike the Wii, they weren't automatically a part of the system. There is no doubt that Microsoft and Sony are going to promote their motion control products because millions of dollars have went into the technology for these new motion control peripherals. However it is very impossible indeed that these new technologies become ignored until the next generation of consoles comes already included with motion control technology.

The issue with Sony's motion controller is that while it has buttons, it seems a MOVE controller is much more difficult to use and aim with as opposed to a typical playstation controller. Now that may be a different story for the casual gamer, but if you are playing Killzone 2 or MAG online, you are going to stick to the controller because you get that reliable precision when aiming a gun.

See http://ps3.ign.com/articles/111/1117588p1.html on how playing MAG w/

However MOVE has potential as being the most precise and reliable form of motion control.

Kinect, is a completely hands free camera that reads your movements, but that has its obvious set backs as well. The main reason being that a camera simply isn't enough to play more complex games like shooters, real time strategies, and RPGs. However, seeing a combination of Kinect and the typical console controller does present interesting prospects as highlighted by Microsoft's Kudo Tsunoda. Core gamers may feel more optimistic about Kinect's future after reading this article.

Call of Duty Black Ops: Wager Matches and Killstreak List Leak

Being that we Americans are very entitled people who want to win everything (greed is good), Black Ops developer Treyarch has presented a new slew of interesting modes for us to gamble a new in-game currency called CoD points. Along with the original experience system that had FPS gamers hooked on playing CoD, CoD points can be saved up for unlocking weapons that otherwise wouldn't be available to your experience level. You gamble these points in something called Wager Matches and these are the 4 wager matches that have been announced. These games are all free-for-all, and you have to be in the top 3 to be "in the money" and win more CoD points, or you will end up wager. So here are the game modes.

There's one in the chamber, where everyone gets a pistol with one bullet (its an insta-kill) and killing a player gets you his bullet (you just get +1 ammo, you don't have to go get his gun). This mode is designed to make you conserve your bullets, and if you miss that shot, then you're going to have to use your knife.

Then there's Gun Game, which was directly was an interesting game mod in the FPS game called Counter Strike. Every kill nets you a new (and usually better) gun... get all 20 ranks and you win the game.

Then there's some mode where everyone has the heavy duty exploding crossbow, a ballistic knife, and a throwable tomahawk. You gain a point from a ballistic knife or crossbow kill, but you can also steal a person's points by hitting them with the tomahawk.

Finally, the last mode is a game where weapons cycle every 45 seconds, so everybody is duking it out with the same weapon and once the timer ends, you will get a new weapon.

The whole purpose of each of these 4 game modes is to create tension, because you're putting CoD points on the line, and if you have ever went gambling before, than losing is not fun...but you always come back for more. This mode seems very hyper competitive and intimidating (and why shouldn't it be?). I am pretty intrigued by these new modes, but I am still crossing my figures for Nazi Zombies....or communist zombies.

Also, here is a link to the latest CoD killstreaks. If you remember those dogs from Call of Duty: World at War, well guess what. They're fucking back, but luckily it takes an 11 killstreak to use them. Once again, here is the link.

Introduction

What I own: PS3, Xbox 360, and PC
What I will be mostly doing: Xbox 360, I am currently in college, and I have an Xbox 360 set up in my room, but my desktop PC is too big and hopefully I can save enough money to get a laptop. The PS3 will arrive at my dorm soon enough.

This is my first new entry into my blog, and while it has been taking me a while to get to it, I will finally stop putting it off. For those who don't know much about me, I am the Game Prober, and I will be delivering the latest coverage on video games taken from my favorite game sites. So all credit goes to them for all of my information gathering. Gametrailers is my favorite site for video gaming news because every other Friday, GTTV provides coverage on the latest and greatest of video games. I also look up gaming news on Shacknews, IGN, and even Gamespot. I also go to Machinima a lot as well, and it's impressive to see what those guys are doing. I will be posting video links, links to news articles, and other batches of interesting information.

This blog does serves to help develop my own skills as a writer, but also as a way for me to share and talk about what I love most: gaming.

Why have I been putting off this blog, well to start there has been a crapload of conventions, but there has also been no particularly interesting games recently. Also an important thing to note is that I don't buy every game, so no I won't buy Mafia 2. I generally don't like to review games because I would need to play crappy games as well in order to establish crediblity as a reviwer. But chances are you will see me reviewing games because I enjoy writing about those two, but you won't see my buying any movie licensed games and reviewing because they always suck.

If anyone is actually reading this blog, then I am appreciative of your support, I do need people to judge me and criticize me, even if this is a fun little side activity, perhaps I will want to make a living out of video game journalism in the future. Who knows, but I have a shitload of work to do if I want to come that far.
